Quick Memoir Memoir

Ethos: "striking the right balance between ‘meaningful protection’ (cybersecurity, privacy, digital ethics, etc) and ‘the maximisation of economic and social value’ (AI, cloud, digital transformation, innovation, etc)"

I am one of the founders of TechTV.Live, an exciting new channel that produces original, independent, and insightful programmes on technology and its application, bringing issues to the attention of politicians, opinion-formers and decision makers to ensure that it works for humanity.

I am best known as a campaigner for privacy and digital ethics, where my focus is on striking the right balance between ‘meaningful protection’ (cybersecurity, privacy, digital ethics, etc) and ‘the maximisation of economic and social value’ (AI, cloud, digital transformation, innovation, etc). I appear regularly on broadcast TV and Radio (BBC Newsnight, BBC Radio, TRT World, etc) and was shortlisted as privacy champion of the year for Europe.

For a number of years, I served as global cyber ambassador and board member for IARCC.org (the International Association for Risk and Crisis Communication) where I was responsible for leading research and professional development for risk awareness, crisis preparedness and incident response globally for cyber incidents and the cyber threat.

Previously, I was Cloud Strategist for UKCloud, the main sovereign cloud player in the UK, which was the fastest-growing, privately-held tech firm in Europe and captured a leading position in the UK public sector cloud market ahead of giants AWS, Google and Microsoft.

During 16 years at IBM, I became the only person in the company’s 100-year history to be appointed as global sector communications leader based outside the US – leading the company’s $20bn Financial Services Sector through the global financial crisis.

I was also a Weapons Engineering Officer the the Royal Navy.
